The Chair of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Zdenko Ćosić, and Deputy Chair Dženan Đonlagić are participating in the 73rd Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs (COSAC), held in Warsaw.
Security issues and EU enlargement were discussed at the meeting, which focused on presenting the priorities of Poland’s Presidency of the European Union (EU).
During the first session, members of the Joint Committee on European Integration of PABiH addressed the participants, congratulating Poland on assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU - its second six-month presidency in two decades of EU membership.
They noted that Poland provides a good example and insight into the significant potential that EU membership offers in terms of the internal development of the country for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a candidate for EU membership.
They expressed gratitude to the EU institutions for activating funds from the Solidarity Fund following the recent catastrophic floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting their pleasure that the Polish presidency will also work on expanding civil protection capacities to enhance resilience to disasters and to safeguard people and property.
They acknowledged that security is a central issue for the Polish presidency of the EU, emphasising that security in Europe is closely linked to the acceleration and completion of the EU enlargement process for the full membership of all Western Balkan countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The meeting also featured an address by the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, while Poland’s Minister for EU Affairs, Adam Szłapka, presented the priorities of the Polish EU Presidency. (End)
