Member of the House of Representatives and member of the PA BiH Friendship Group for Western Europe Šemsudin Mehmedović held a meeting with the representative of the German Bundestag Boris Mijatović

Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) and member of the PA BiH Friendship Group for Western Europe, Šemsudin Mehmedović, held a meeting today with the representative of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, Boris Mijatović.

During the meeting, Mehmedović expressed special thanks for everything that Germany has been doing for Bosnia and Herzegovina for years, especially now, given the fact that Germany is one of the proponents of the Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, which should be voted on in the United Nations General Assembly.

As part of the discussion on the current political situation in BiH and the region, Mehmedović emphasized that BiH, despite all the political challenges, is working to fulfil two key foreign policy goals, membership in the European Union (EU) and NATO. In this regard, Mehmedović assessed that the decision of the EU institutions to approve BiH's opening of negotiations on EU membership is of immense importance, and expressed the expectation that Germany will strengthen its support in the coming period, which, he said, is crucial for BiH on its European path.

According to Mehmedović, it is important for Bosnia and Herzegovina to adopt the European legal acquis and EU standards in the process of joining the EU, with the aim of establishing the full rule of law, realizing the freedoms and rights of all citizens, and defining internal relations in BiH.

Member of the German Bundestag Boris Mijatović stressed that his country fully supports the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also spoke about the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica and stated that the Resolution, as he said, is not against, but for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens.

Mijatović assessed the bilateral relations between the two countries as good and friendly, and said that Germany is interested in further strengthening foreign political and economic cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bosnia and Herzegovina Thomas Fitschen also attended today's meeting. (end)
