The Council of Europe’s Monitoring Mission in the BiH PA

Sulejman Tihić, Speaker of the BiH PA House of Representatives, Nermina Zaimović Uzunović, Representative of the House of Representatives, and Josip Merdžo, the Councillor of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, spoke today to members of the Delegation of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, the Monitoring Mission of the Directorate for Political Counselling.

During the discussion, guests had the opportunity to hear various opinions on the current political situation in BiH, while special attention was given to efforts to implement the European Court of Human Rights’ judgment in the Sejdić and Finci vs. BiH case. Members of the Mission were also interested in the BiH PA’s legislative plan, and in what way key legislative projects, necessary for BiH’s accession to the European Union, would be realized.

According to Daniilo Khoshaba, Vice President of the Directorate for Political Counselling, it would be good to use experiences from the structured dialogue on judicial reform prior to adopting some of the most important laws, and to seek advice from Council of Europe bodies, principally the Venice Commission. In this way, any potential adopted legislation disputes could be avoided, he added. (end)
