Deputy speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Dragan Čović met today in Zagreb with the Minister of Health in the Government of Croatia

The deputy speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) Dr. Dragan Čović met today in Zagreb with the Minister of Health in the Government of Croatia Vili Beroš.

The officials discussed the situation of health and in health care institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the Republic of Croatia, future projects, as well as all other topics in the field of health with the aim to expand cooperation, exchange experience and proposals for improving health care.  

Minister Beroš spoke about the reform of the healthcare system and the reorganization of the entire healthcare system with the primary aim of achieving organizational, financial and HR sustainability in healthcare system. The goals, as he stated, are included in the Proposal for Amendments to Law on Healthcare and in the Law on Mandatory Health Insurance, which will be implemented after adoption in the future period.

The interlocutors agreed that a comprehensive reform must be the basis for the quality functioning of healthcare, but also that it is necessary to make additional efforts and find models of reorganization so that the system is sustainable in a long term and corresponds to the standards of modern medicine. The emphasis must be on prevention and strengthening primary health care, prevention and education in order to achieve a long-term sustainable system, stated at the meeting.  

They discussed the development and organization of Faculty of Medicine of the University in Mostar, cooperation with Croatian faculties and health institutions and its importance for the availability of health care, as well as on personnel potentials. 

They also exchanged opinions on best practices for providing affordable, quality, and efficient health care and solving global health challenges. It was agreed to continue cooperation and exchange of experience between medical institutions in the direction of future development of health system.
