The state of Bosnia and Herzegovina comprises of two entities: the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska. Brčko District has a special status.
The present constitutional-legal system of Bosnia and Herzegovina was determined by the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was initialled in Dayton (USA) on 21 November 1995 and signed in Paris (France) on 14 December 1995.
The government, at the state level, is divided into the:
- Legislative (Parliamentary Assembly of BiH);
- Executive (BiH Presidency and Council of Ministers of BiH); and
- Judiciary (Constitutional Court of BiH and Court of BiH).

Population: 4.332.339 (Bosniak 43.5%; Serb 31.3%, Croat 17.6%, Other 7.6%, as per the 1991 Population Census)
Capital: Sarajevo, 289.973 inhabitants
