Members of the BiH PA Friendship Group for Western Europe talked with members of the Friendship Group of the German Bundestag

Members of the Friendship Group for Western Europe of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) met today in Sarajevo with members of the Friendship Group of Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany.

During a cordial and friendly meeting information was exchanged on the current political situation in both countries and the position of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries in the region in the process of the European Union (EU) accession was analysed.

Members of the German Bundestag particularly highlighted that they want to see Bosnia and Herzegovina as a full EU member, but also warned that, according to their opinion, our country still has extremely strong forces that encourage territorial and ethnic divisions which, they said, is the opposite path from the one that our country should be taking if it wants to join the EU.

Pointing to the negative experience the EU has had with some Member States in terms of the unfinished judiciary reform, members of the Bundestag specifically underlined the need to fight crime and corruption and to establish an independent judiciary. They also stressed the importance of implementing economic reforms aimed at creating new jobs and stopping the emigration of young and educated people from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Members of the BiH PA Friendship Group for Western Europe agreed with the German colleagues about the need to better regulate the judicial system, and making the judicial institutions in our country independent and transparent in dealing with crime, corruption, human trafficking, as well as the threat of radicalism and terrorism.

Reaffirming the commitment of all political parties in BiH to take the European road, the BiH PA representatives and delegates pointed out that our country needs even stronger political support of friends from the EU and entire world. (End)
