Deputy Chairman of the Delegation of the Parliamentary assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Inter-parliamentary Union Salko Sokolović and a member of the delegation Predrag Kožul participate in the 137th annual meeting of the IPU, which has begun today in Geneva.

The session began with the general debate, and during the annual session of the IPU, participants were addressed by President of the oldest and largest planetary parliamentary organization in the world Saber Chowdury and general manager of the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, Michael Møller, who spoke about the main topic of debate - the role of parliaments in prevention violations of human rights as a forerunner of conflicts.

During the session, which will last until Thursday, 27 October, more than 700 delegates from 138 countries, including 67 Speakers of Parliament, will look for answers to questions about the causes and consequences of frequent cases of human rights violations, political exclusion, religious intolerance and restriction of fundamental freedoms such as the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembling.

Through the adoption of the final document of the session, parliamentarians from around the world will send a joint appeal, according to which the absence of institutional responses to human rights violations creates a fertile ground for conflicts and wars. (end)
