Members of the Collegium of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina talked with the High Representative
Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA), Bariša Čolak, and his Deputies, Ognjen Tadić and Safet Softić, spoke today in Sarajevo with the High Representative of the international community, Valentin Inzko, and his associates about the current political situation in and the need to accelerate Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH’s) path to EU membership.
During the meeting, it was agreed that, since its inauguration, this convocation of the House of Peoples has fulfilled its constitutional function both democratically and in full. It was jointly concluded that such working environment, regardless of any political differences, provides an opportunity for major steps forward on BiH’s European path, as well as for changing the political situation and climate in BiH - with greater inflow of foreign investment and job creation being necessary preconditions for improving the economic situation.
It was also emphasized that BiH must not miss the opportunity provided by the new EU Initiative for BiH, and must use its six-month chairing of the Committee of Ministers in the Council of Europe. Meeting participants also tackled the issues of extremism and terrorism. They highlighted the need for co-operation between all security agencies, both in-country and regionally, in the global fight against terror. (End).
