The Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kemal Ademović, addressed a gathering in Sarajevo marking 15 July – Democracy and National Unity Day of the Republic of Türkiye. Deputy Speaker Ademović’s address is transmitted in full:

"Your Excellency Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

It is a great honour and pleasure to have the opportunity to be with you today at the commemoration of 15 July – Democracy and National Unity Day of the Republic of Türkiye, and to thank you on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the invitation to address this esteemed gathering.

Today marks ten years since an event that left a profound mark on the modern history of the Republic of Türkiye. On that day, 15 July 2016, the citizens of Türkiye demonstrated determination, courage, and commitment to democratic values, safeguarding the constitutional order and institutions of their country. We pay special tribute to all those who lost their lives and express our solidarity with their families.

This tenth anniversary is not only an occasion for remembrance, but also for reaffirming the universal message that democracy, freedom, and the rule of law are values that demand constant protection and shared responsibility.

The Republic of Türkiye is an important and sincere friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our two countries are bound by strong historical, cultural, and personal ties, as well as a common commitment to peace, stability, and development. In a time of complex geopolitical challenges, when the international order faces numerous trials, dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation are more valuable than ever before.

Today, Türkiye continues to play a significant role in promoting regional stability, fostering international dialogue, and providing support to partners across the globe. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, we particularly appreciate its continuous support for development projects, economic ties, and the preservation of peace and stability.

May the memory of 15 July remind us that the unity of the people, the strength of democratic institutions, and mutual solidarity constitute the foundation of any nation's resilience.

Allow me, once again, to extend my sincere congratulations to the citizens of the Republic of Türkiye on Democracy and National Unity Day, with the wish that Türkiye continues along its path of peace, prosperity, and success, and that the friendship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Türkiye grows even stronger in the years to come."
