Dr. Denis Bećirović, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, met today with the US Ambassador to BiH
- Despite numerous problems, a vigorous impetus in a positive direction can still be sensed in Bosnia and Herzegovina - was stressed during the meeting held today between Dr. Denis Bećirović, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Patrick Moon, US Ambassador to our country.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Bećirović has expressed his sincere gratitude to the United States of America for engaging in the establishment of and maintaining peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the post-war democratic consolidation of the BiH society and stressed that our country appreciates the continued interest of the USA in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its wholehearted support to our country on its path toward the membership with the NATO and European Union. According to him, a special gratitude should be directed to the endorsement of the Resolution on BiH passed by the Lower House of the American Congress in 2009, stressing the necessity for constitutional changes in BiH aimed at the establishment of an efficient country capable of meeting its commitments.
- The role of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH is extremely important and we are glad that the House of Representatives has strong leaders, a strong leadership full of energy and dedication to working on moving things forward, Ambassador Moon said today. According to him, it is important to have the Council of Ministers formed as soon as possible to have the government establishment process finalised, for the Council is the symbol of the potential and strength that this country needs to be able to tangle with the challenges. The enforcement of the Sejdić-Finci verdict and its integration into the constitutional system of Bosnia and Herzegovina is, perhaps, the most serious task to be faced with by the new government very soon.
Speaker Bećirović introduced Ambassador Moon to the activities of the House of Representatives of the BiH PA and briefly presented its priorities, emphasising that it is quite important that a positive climate has been created, pending the parliamentary majority, enabling all the processes to move in positive directions.
Finally, it was concluded that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the USA have established a high level of co-operation and an intense relationship at political and diplomatic levels, but that an opportunity was created for the development of a stronger connection at the level of parliament. A visit by the highest ranking representatives of the US Lower and Upper Houses to the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina was also mentioned as a possibility. (The end)
