MP Nenad Grković participates in the meeting of the SEECP PA General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science in Ankara

Nenad Grković, a Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) and a member of the PABiH Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP PA), participated in the meeting of the SEECP PA General Committee on Social Development, Education, Research and Science in Ankara today.

Participants of the meeting, which was held at the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye, discussed the theme: "The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education".

In his presentation on this topic, MP Nenad Grković assessed that artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept but is instead present in classrooms, digital platforms, and educational systems worldwide.

According to Grković, the key question for South-East Europe is not whether we will use artificial intelligence in education, but whether we will use it as a tool to improve the quality of education or allow it to deepen existing disparities in educational levels among students.

Grković spoke about the key benefits of using artificial intelligence in education, as well as the responsibilities and challenges facing this process. Personalized learning, the optimization of teachers' workloads, and access to knowledge at any time and in any place were some of the benefits Grković highlighted. Regarding challenges, he mentioned the protection of student data and privacy, the equitable use of technology to avoid deepening differences between school institutions and student knowledge, and the issue of continuous education for teaching staff.

In Grković's view, the application of artificial intelligence in education represents a strategic development opportunity for the countries of the region, which, through cooperation, can develop common standards, exchange experiences and best practices, and build shared digital platforms.

"Artificial intelligence should not and must not replace the teacher. The human factor in education – empathy, understanding, and inspiration – remains irreplaceable," Grković stated.

The participants also adopted the Draft Resolution on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Education, in which they emphasised the importance of regional cooperation in utilizing AI in education across South-East Europe.

In this document, the participants in Ankara called upon institutions to develop and implement comprehensive, coherent, and advanced strategies on the use of AI in education, aligned with international standards. They confirmed that artificial intelligence must be used as a tool to support and strengthen teaching staff rather than replace them, maintaining the central role of the teacher in the educational process.

Furthermore, the participants called on all relevant institutions to take the necessary measures to ensure that the use of artificial intelligence in education contributes to inclusive, equitable, and high-quality learning for all, in accordance with common regional values and global principles.
