Deputy Speaker of the PABiH House of Representatives Dr Denis Zvizdić participates in the IPU Assembly in Istanbul
"Peace is a prerequisite for democracy and development"
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Dr Denis Zvizdić, is participating in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, where he stated during the general debate that the modern world, faced with rising tensions and injustice, must renew its commitment to peace, cooperation, and shared values.
Addressing the participants of the debate on fostering hope and ensuring peace for future generations, Zvizdić warned of geopolitical conflicts, growing fear, and a crisis of hope, emphasizing that peace is the foundation of democracy, economic development, and the protection of human rights.
He pointed out that "peace is not merely the absence of war, but the result of responsible governance, the rule of law, and mutual trust", adding that the world today faces a choice between conflict and cooperation.
Speaking about Bosnia and Herzegovina, he recalled its multicultural character and historical examples of solidarity, including the rescue of the Sarajevo Haggadah during the Second World War.
He concluded that differences between civilisations do not have to lead to divisions but can instead be the foundation for cooperation, cultural enrichment, and unity.
Participation in this significant international gathering, attended by representatives from 142 countries, confirms the commitment of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to strengthening international parliamentary cooperation, promoting peace, stability, and democratic values, and actively contributing to solving global challenges."
