Chairman of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative, Sredoje Nović, participated in Trieste in the marking of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the CEI Executive Secretariat

A delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chairman of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Central European Initiative (CEI), Sredoje Nović, took part in Trieste (Republic of Italy) in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the CEI Executive Secretariat.

In addition to parliamentarians, the conference marking this important anniversary also brought together foreign ministers of CEI member states, a regional initiative that includes European Union (EU) member states as well as countries with candidate status for full EU membership. Its goal is to bring the countries of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe closer together and to foster cooperation and exchange of experiences in the EU accession process.

Participants at the conference listened to introductory remarks by CEI Secretary General Franco Dal Mas and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy, Antonio Tajani, who emphasized the opportunity to reaffirm the role of the CEI as a platform serving as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation, as well as a driver of economic and social development within the broader framework of the reunification of Europe.

During two sessions, participants discussed the role of the CEI, an initiative that has historically played a key role as a driver of the EU enlargement process, demonstrating that Europe, as stated, is primarily built through the mutual relations of its member states.

There was also discussion about the future of the CEI in light of current geopolitical, economic, and energy challenges facing the European continent. The need was emphasized for the CEI and its Executive Secretariat to have greater visibility and a stronger role in ensuring institutional continuity and effective coordination among member states.

Special attention during the conference was dedicated to addressing what the CEI represents for its member states, the benefits achieved, and what improvements can be designed for its future work. Participants emphasized the need for the CEI to act in the future as a catalyst for stability, sustainable development, and cohesion across the broader European area, promoting project-based cooperation focused on delivering results that meet the needs of member states.
