Speaker of the House of Representatives of the PABiH, Marinko Čavara, participated in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Forum in Abu Dhabi

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Marinko Čavara, participated in the Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), dedicated to strengthening social cohesion, stability and inclusiveness, held in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, under the high patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. The Forum, held under the title “Empowering Women for Cohesive and Inclusive Societies: From the Gulf to the Mediterranean”, brought together high-level representatives of parliaments and international institutions.

In his address to the participants of the Forum, Speaker Čavara emphasised that the equal participation of women in political, social and economic life is the foundation of stable, democratic and inclusive societies, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains committed to further strengthening the legislative and institutional framework in the field of gender equality. He particularly underscored the importance of combating gender-based violence, including femicide as the most severe form of violence against women, highlighting the need for a comprehensive institutional response through legislative measures, prevention and the protection of victims. Speaking about the position of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Speaker Čavara stated that women today hold the highest state offices, including a Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, thereby confirming their important role in decision-making processes.

The participants of the Forum discussed the encouragement of women’s empowerment in economic and political life, the importance of supporting women in education, healthcare and the preservation of environmental sustainability, the role of women in combating terrorism, as well as in the prevention and suppression of violent extremism, and sexual and gender-based violence related to terrorism, emphasising the need for stronger institutional cooperation and the exchange of good practices among Member States.

During his stay in Abu Dhabi, Speaker Čavara met with the President of PAM, Giulio Centemero (Italy), with whom he discussed future activities and the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation.

The participation of Speaker Čavara at this event confirms the commitment of the PABiH to promoting equality, as well as security and social stability at the international level. (Press release from the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Marinko Čavara)
