Representative in the House of Representatives and member of the BiH PA Delegation to PACE Sabina Ćudić elected as Vice-President of the PACE Monitoring Committee
Sabina Ćudić, Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) and member of the BiH PA Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), was today elected in Strasbourg, during the first part of the regular annual session of PACE, as the First Vice-President of the Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee).
With the election of Representative Ćudić to the position of First Vice-President of the Monitoring Committee, Bosnia and Herzegovina has for the first time secured a place in the leadership of this key PACE body. The Monitoring Committee oversees member states, monitors and reports—among other things—on the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, and is the only PACE committee that meets in camera.
Today, Ćudić was also re-elected as Vice-President of the European Liberals in PACE, and she continues to hold this position as well.
MP Ćudić stated that it is a great honour for her to be elected to two important positions in one day. She added that the focus of the Monitoring Committee's work certainly includes the implementation of European Court of Human Rights judgments concerning Bosnia and Herzegovina. “The Council of Europe, as the founder of the Venice Commission, certainly has the capacity to provide expert support to Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Ćudić emphasized.
Members of the BiH PA Delegation to PACE will participate tomorrow in Strasbourg in the debate on Bosnia and Herzegovina's fulfilment of obligations arising from its membership in the Council of Europe.
Within this debate, the report The functioning of democratic institutions in BiH by the Monitoring Committee rapporteurs Zsolt Németh from Hungary and Pablo Hispán from Spain will be presented, after which a vote on the proposed resolution is scheduled. (end)
