Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the 71st Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Ljubljana

The Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), composed of the Head of Delegation Kemal Ademović and Deputy Heads of Delegation Marina Pendeš and Obren Petrović, participated in the 71st Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, held from 10 to 13 October 2025 in Ljubljana, Republic of Slovenia.

The session brought together more than 245 parliamentarians from 32 NATO member and partner countries and adopted key recommendations to the governments of allied nations aimed at strengthening collective defense, deterrence, and support for Ukraine. The recommendations also include a call for allies to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035.

Several reports and six resolutions containing recommendations to NATO member state governments were adopted, among which the resolution “Strengthening Stability and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans” stands out as particularly important for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As part of the session, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly finalized a comprehensive review of its partnership arrangements with the aim of strengthening their effectiveness in the changing security environment. Based on this review, the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the NATO PA was officially designated as a Partner for Comprehensive Security, with additional privileges stemming from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s status as a candidate country for NATO membership.

During the plenary sitting, the NATO PA elected its new/old leadership, as the current President, Marcos Perestrello, was confirmed for a new one-year term.

At the conclusion of the session, the NATO PA appointed Benedetta Berti from Italy as the new Secretary General of the Assembly and expressed its appreciation to the outgoing Secretary General, Ruxandra Popa, for her many years of dedicated and professional service.

Members of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina expressed their deep gratitude to Ruxandra Popa for her long-standing, highly constructive, and successful cooperation with the Delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and wished her much success in her future professional endeavors.
