Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the PA BiH Marinko Čavara participated in the 9. Summit of Presidents of Parliaments of the Union for the Mediterranean

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) Marinko Čavara participated in the 9. Summit of Speakers of Parliaments of Member States of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, held in Malaga within the framework of the Spanish presidency of this Assembly.

In his address during the Summit, Deputy Speaker Čavara stressed the importance of mutual respect, dialogue and constructive cooperation among the states of the region, with the aim of strengthening the stability and security of the entire Mediterranean area. He particularly emphasized the need to tirelessly seek solutions to all disputes to avoid conflicts, and to establish international mechanisms that would oblige all states – regardless of their power – to respect the sovereignty of states and peoples, as well as to protect the freedom and fundamental human rights of every individual.

The summit, co-chaired by the President of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain, Francina Armengol, and the First Vice-President of the Senate, Javier Maroto, brought together the presidents, vice-presidents and delegates of the parliaments of the member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean, as well as representatives of the European Parliament.

The central theme of the Summit was the migration situation in the Mediterranean region, viewed from a comprehensive perspective. Participants exchanged views on key challenges facing the region – from migration flows and climate change to youth employment and achieving gender equality. A joint political declaration was adopted within the framework of numerous working groups and forums, including the Forum on the Future of the Mediterranean, reaffirming the collective commitment to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.
The Final Declaration highlighted the need to intensify cooperation among Mediterranean countries, establish safe and orderly migration policies, promote and protect human rights, implement the energy transition, and support peace and stabilization processes in the Middle East, North Africa, and all crisis areas around the world. It also reaffirmed its commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a key instrument for building trust and inter-institutional cooperation.

The summit was also an occasion for a series of bilateral meetings and discussions with the presidents and vice-presidents of the parliaments of the member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean.

The duty of chairing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean was assumed by the Arab Republic of Egypt. (Announcement from the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Marinko Čavara)
