Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) Ermina Salkičević - Dizdarević visited today the Secretariat of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) in Vienna.

During this visit, MP Salkičević - Dizdarević met with the executive secretary of the ICPDR, Birgit Vogel, and was informed about the current projects that this International Commission is currently dealing with as well as the plans they have in the coming period, especially the "Joint Danube Survey 5", as the largest Danube research project.

Given that the ICPDR, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), carries out numerous activities, Salkičević-Dizdarević, in her capacity as the chairperson of the Joint Commission for Economic Reforms and Development of the PSBiH which strives to integrate the SDG goals in its work, offered the cooperation of the Joint Commission in promoting and improving the work of the ICPDR in this area for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been a member of the ICPDR since 2003, and since then, through the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, it has been actively participating in regional cooperation on the protection and sustainable management of the waters of the Sava, Drina, Bosna and other Danube tributaries.

As a member of the ICPDR, BiH actively participates in the development of river basin management plans, especially the Sava River basin, which brings it closer to the standards of the Water Framework Directive of the European Union (EU).

At the same time, ICPDR supported several important projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, among them the creation of flood risk and hazard maps for the Sava and Drina, the improvement of the early warning system in Bijeljina, Zvornik and the Spreča valley, and the restoration of ecosystems and fish protection in the Bosna and Spreča rivers.

During 2013, Ermina Salkičević - Dizdarević, on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, chaired this International Commission, which consists of 14 countries of the Danube basin and the EU. (end)
