Deputy Chair of the Committee on Gender Equality of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mia Karamehić–Abazović Held a Meeting with Women Parliamentarians from Central Asia and Japan
Deputy Chair of the Committee on Gender Equality of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH), Mia Karamehić–Abazović, held a meeting today with women parliamentarians from Central Asia and Japan, who are visiting our country as part of a study visit dedicated to gathering information on gender equality and the empowerment of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Karamehić–Abazović welcomed the parliamentarians from Armenia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, and presented in her address the activities of the PABiH regarding gender equality and the protection of women's rights.
She also reflected on the competences and work programme of the Committee on Gender Equality of the House of Representatives of the PABiH, as well as on the Committee’s cooperation with international organisations and non-governmental organisations that work on the empowerment and protection of women’s rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this context, she informed the guests about the legal framework and mechanisms for the protection of women’s rights at the state level.
In the interactive discussion, which was also attended by the Director of the Agency for Gender Equality of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, Samra Filipović–Hadžiabdić, the participants discussed the alignment of BiH’s legal framework with global instruments for the protection of women's rights, gender equality initiatives, and UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
