Members of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Delegation Participate in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session in Dayton

The Chair of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), Kemal Ademović, together with the Deputy Chairs of the Delegation, Marina Pendeš and Obren Petrović, continued their activities at the NATO PA Spring Session held in Dayton, USA.
Due to the special significance of marking the 30th anniversary of the signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Delegation was, exceptionally, invited to attend a session of the NATO PA Standing Committee. Chair Kemal Ademović delivered a speech entitled "Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Priorities and the Path of Euro-Atlantic Integration 30 Years after the Dayton Peace Agreement", in which he reflected on the current political and security situation in the country, emphasising the importance of continuing reforms and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic path. He also highlighted the need to strengthen state institutions and international support to ensure the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Members of the BiH Delegation also participated in the work of the NATO PA Political Committee, chaired by Sverre Myrli from Norway. During the Political Committee session, two panels were held.
The first panel, entitled "The Legacy of Dayton – Enhancing Stability in the Western Balkans", brought together prominent speakers who discussed the importance of the Dayton Peace Agreement and its impact on regional security. Participants included former Swedish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, U.S. Ambassador to North Macedonia Angela P. Aggeler, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to the United States Sven Alkalaj, and North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Timčo Mucunski.
The second panel, "Strengthening NATO and Transatlantic Contributions to Euro-Atlantic Security", focused on current security challenges and NATO’s role in maintaining stability worldwide. Presentations were made by the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew G. Whitaker and former NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană.
The preliminary draft report "The Western Balkans: 30 Years since the Signing of the Dayton Agreement" was presented by the chief rapporteur Tomas Valasek from Slovakia. This report will be subject to adoption at the NATO PA Annual Session to be held in Ljubljana. (end)
