Members of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the NATO PA Held a Meeting in Dayton with Members of the Delegation of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Norway to the NATO PA

The Chair of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), Kemal Ademović, and Deputy Chair Obren Petrović held a meeting in Dayton, on the margins of the NATO PA Spring Session, with members of the Delegation of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Norway to the NATO PA.

The Norwegian Delegation was headed by the Chair of the Delegation, Trond Helleland, and included the Deputy Chair and Chair of the Political Committee Sverre Myrli, member Anette Trettebergstuen, and alternate members Kari Elisabeth Kaski and Tellef Inge Mørland.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the current political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Western Balkans region, as well as on the planned visit of representatives from Nordic and Baltic countries to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Chair Ademović briefed the Norwegian Delegation on key reform processes in the country, particularly in the context of preparations for opening accession negotiations with the European Union (EU). He expressed the expectation that the remaining two laws would be adopted, and the chief negotiator appointed by the end of June, thus enabling the formal launch of accession negotiations with the EU.

The Norwegian parliamentarians showed particular interest in the internal structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the presence of foreign influence, and the country’s strategic positioning in the context of regional and global security. They emphasised the continued commitment and sympathy of the Kingdom of Norway towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, clearly expressing their desire to see tangible progress on the country’s path toward full Euro-Atlantic integration.

They also reiterated Norway’s readiness, in its capacity as the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to further support the country’s progress within NATO, and to actively engage in all relevant processes leading to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in the Alliance.

In this context, the planned visit of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the entity of Republika Srpska was also discussed, aimed at bringing the benefits and advantages of NATO integration closer to the public. The Norwegian parliamentarians described this initiative as a well-considered and appropriate plan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their appreciation for the open and constructive dialogue. (End)
