Member of the PA BiH Delegation to the IPU, Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević, participated in the Women Parliamentarians' Forum at the 150th IPU Assembly

Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Ermina Salkičević-Dizdarević, took active part in the 39th session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians held within the framework of the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent.
During the two-day session, participants discussed the advancement of gender equality and the role of parliaments in shaping policies that empower women; the IPU Assembly Resolution on the Question of Palestine; parliamentary strategies for mitigating the long-term impacts of conflict on sustainable development; and the election of the Forum's leadership for the next two years.
The Forum also marked the 40th anniversary of its establishment, highlighting the importance of past initiatives aimed at enhancing the role of women in politics and law-making. In addition to plenary sessions, a panel on women in politics was held, where participants examined the challenges women face in the political arena, as well as strategies to increase their participation in decision-making processes.
“Mainstreaming a gender perspective in ‘everyday’ topics to ensure equality in political decision-making and provide support to women affected by conflict is a key component of political engagement, as well as a reflection of responsibility towards the vulnerable or neglected members of our society. The experiences and recommendations shared at the Forum are valuable resources for improving legislative frameworks and policies that guarantee gender equality,” stated MP Salkičević-Dizdarević in her address during the session.
This year’s Forum also presented an analysis of women's representation in national governments – within both the executive and legislative branches, as well as in the position of head of state. The report clearly shows that Bosnia and Herzegovina can do significantly better and has substantial room to improve women’s representation at all levels of government.
Mexican Senator Cynthia López Castro was re-elected as Chair of the IPU Forum of Women Parliamentarians, having demonstrated outstanding results in promoting and advancing women in parliament during her previous term. (End)
