Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina spoke with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe
The most important step for Bosnia and Herzegovina, at this point, is to find a solution for the implementation of the judgement Sejdic-Finci that will include essential rather than the formal changes. If a solution is not found by the summer, there is a possibility that the local, and afterwards the parliamentary elections in 2014 will be held on the existing constitution; however, due to this fact the results of the elections will not be recognized by the international community. Because of this, “we invite you to make additional efforts in order to find a solution for this very important question. The European Union and the Council of Europe interact and monitor the fulfilment of the requirements closely, and we should be aware of the fact that that there are no two-fold standards. However, we are encouraged by the desire for dialogue and compromise, and we believe that Bosnia and Herzegovina will move faster toward its European path”, emphasized the secretary general of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, during the meeting with the representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the meeting Dr. Denis Bećirević, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Asim Sarajlić, the Chair of the Caucus of SDA in the House of Representatives, and Staša Košarac, the Chair of the Serb people Caucus in the House of Peoples, spoke about the positive atmosphere that has been created in the Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last few months, and which has also been recognized in Strasbourg.
Along with the fulfilment of the requirements for the realization of the two strategic foreign policy goals, there is a need to appoint representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Council of Europe as soon as possible. (end)
