Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marinko Čavara Attended Ministerial Conference on Western Balkan countries’ Accession Negotiations to the European Union

„Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) Marinko Čavara attended the Ministerial Conference on the Accession Negotiations of Western Balkan Countries to the European Union (EU) and the Remaining Steps Towards the Negotiation Phase, jointly organized today in Sarajevo by the Ministry of Justice of BiH, the Directorate for European Integration, and the EU Delegation to BiH.

Participants of the conference exchanged views and opinions on Chapter 23 of the accession negotiations, encompassing areas of judiciary, fight against corruption, and fundamental rights, during three panel discussions.

The opening remarks at the conference were delivered by Minister of Justice of BiH Davor Bunoza, Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Ambassador Johann Sattler, Ambassador of the French Republic to BiH François Delmas, President of the Venice Commission Claire Bazy Malaurie, and Chair of the Council of Ministers of BiH Borjana Krišto.

During the ministerial panel, Minister of Justice, Administration, and Digital Transformation of the Republic of Croatia Damir Habijan, Minister of Justice of Montenegro Andrej Milović, and Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Albania Tedi Dobi addressed participants, discussing the experiences of their countries regarding Chapter 23 – the negotiations, achievements, challenges, obstacles, and ways to overcome them.

The conference also gathered numerous experts in the field of European integration, who spoke about negotiation structure and coordination, harmonization of regulations with the EU acquis, and the role of negotiation teams.

Additionally, discussions highlighted the role and contribution of civil society organizations in fulfilling relevant steps by BiH, as well as their expectations for future participation in the negotiation process and structures.
