Members of the Joint Committee for Economic Reforms and Development of the PA BiH spoke with representatives of the Directorate for Economic Planning of BiH

Members of the Joint Committee for Economic Reforms and Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) spoke today in Sarajevo with representatives of the Directorate for Economic Planning of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The representatives of the Directorate, headed by Director Zoran Zeljko, presented the work of this institution and emphasized that, as a permanent body of the BiH Council of Ministers, it undertakes regular activities with the aim of analysing the current economic situation, planning social and economic development and collecting macroeconomic and other indicators regarding the economic policy and economic development of our country. They also talked about the documents that are created as a result of their work and research, and which, in the form of monthly, quarterly and annual information and reports, are regularly communicated to the Council of Ministers of BiH, as well as  Joint Committee for Economic Reforms and Development of the PABiH, the bodies which, within their competence, supervise this Directorate.

Presenting the basic statistical data and indicators from their reports, the representatives of the Directorate pointed out said a slow that trend of economic growth in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2023, a slow growth of employment and inflation, and a trend of increasing the collection of public revenues based on direct and indirect taxes. They said that macroeconomic trends in our country are directly conditioned by economic trends and the situation in the European Union, and emphasized the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a small and open economy, is always affected by global trends and instabilities in the region.

They emphasized that, despite such indicators, there are positive trends that indicate the growth of the domestic economy and said that the further economic developments of our country will exclusively be related to European integration and the economy of the European Union.

During the discussion, members of the Joint Commission expressed concern regarding certain statistical indicators that, among other things, indicate a decline in industrial production, limited foreign investment, as well as unused potential in the field of production and export of electricity and drinking water.

Expressing their gratitude to the guests for comprehensive presentation, the members of the Committee said that information they received would be useful in their parliamentary work and assessed that the organization of meetings in this format is mutually beneficial. (end)
