Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Kemal Ademović met with representatives of civil society organizations gathered around the Declaration on Constitutional and Other Reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the path to EU and NATO

The Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kemal Ademović, met today with representatives of the Jewish Cultural Society La Benevolencija, the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals, the Croatian National Council, the Serbian Civic Council, the Forum of Parliamentarians of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1990, the Centre for the Promotion of Civil Society, and the appellant before the European Court of Human Rights, Jakob Finci, who are gathered around the Declaration on Constitutional and Other Reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the path to the EU and NATO.

In an open discussion, representatives of civil society organizations expressed their expectations that amendments to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina could be adopted in parliamentary procedure prior to entering the election year. The introduction of information solutions would further protect the integrity of the electoral process especially in the field of determining the identity of voters and the election results on the basis of scanned voting materials. At the same time, the need for legal and even constitutional changes was reiterated, resulting in the implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in the cases of Sejdić and Finci, Zornić, and other judgments that contribute to the equal representation of all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the electoral process.

Speaker Ademović fully agreed with the need for swift electoral reforms to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process, emphasizing that this is achievable should there be the will of key political actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In doing so, as he emphasized, special attention should be paid to exploring the possibilities of maximum protection against "cyber" attacks and eventual attempts to influence the electoral process and results through planned new information system.

Mr. Ademović announced that he would inform members of the Joint Collegium of both Houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the content of today's discussion at the next session and insist that the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina commit more strongly to implementing the adopted Action Plan for the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in the cases of Zornić against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sejdić and Finci against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pilav against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Pudarić against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
