Saša Magazinović, member of the House of Representatives of the PA BiH, is participating in the Southeast European Democracy Summit in Budva

"Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PA BiH) Saša Magazinović, at the invitation of the International Republican Institute (IRI) from Washington, participates as one of the speakers in the work of the Southeast European Democracy Summit in Budva together with the presidents, ministers, deputies from the countries of the region, as well as representatives of NGOs and the international community.

Speaking about the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union (EU), Magazinović emphasized that the candidate status of our country is not a reward for politicians for a job well done, but a result of geopolitical developments. For this reason, he added, the new authorities must show that it understands this and reciprocate by adopting priority laws so that negotiations with the EU can be opened as soon as possible because it is, in fact, the most effective tool for serious reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Speaking about NATO, Magazinović recalled the unanimous decision of the BiH Presidency, in which those who in public oppose membership in NATO participated, as well as the adopted Defence Law, which very precisely defines the state's relationship to NATO. Magazinović characterized the fact that from time to time a number of politicians use the thesis of opposition to NATO as a daily political tool as irresponsible towards the public, but also as an insincere act, since, as he said, most of them change their position depending on whether the cameras are on or off. Magazinović assessed EU and NATO integration as unstoppable processes.

Answering the question about the role of the high representative in the process of forming the government, Magazinović repeated the previously expressed position that the high representative Christian Schmidt made a mistake when he imposed rules on the night of the election, without which the new government would have been formed long ago, and he assessed the latest decision as an attempt to correct the earlier mistakes made, pointing out that he expects the representatives of the international community to stand up for the same values and rules in Bosnia and Herzegovina that apply in the countries they come from.

During his stay in Montenegro, Magazinović will have a number of bilateral meetings with decision-makers from the region, as well as with representatives of international institutions from the USA and Europe."
