Ismeta Dervoz, Representative of the BiH PA House of Representatives, presented a preliminary report on the “Industrial Legacy in Europe”

Participating in the work of the Committee for Culture, Science, Education and Media of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Ismeta Dervoz, Representative of the BiH PA House of Representatives, as a reporter, presented today a preliminary report on the “Industrial Legacy in Europe.” Members of the Committee unanimously supported the report, emphasizing the quality of this joint work and the co-operation of experts, the Secretary of the Council of Europe, and the reporter Dervoz. Moreover, the final version of the report will be presented to the Committee for adoption in its January session, while final adoption by the Council of Europe is planned for March 2013. Representative Ismeta Dervoz will be the first reporter from BiH since the Council of Europe accepted it as a member in 2002.

Although, at this two-day session of the Committee for Culture, Science, Education, and Media of the Council of Europe, conditions for media freedom in Europe were discussed, media representatives expressed greater concern for another issue, namely Resolution 1875 (2012) entitled “Good Management and Ethics in Sports.” In the presence of current and ex FIFA officials, corruption and the loss of credibility in this organization were emphasized. A thorough exchange of opinions also took place on youth issues, such as access to basic human rights, and the challenge of urgent changes to education systems, in light of high youth unemployment rates in Europe. As stated, the Committee will pay greater attention to these issues in the upcoming period.

In light of the recent tragic events in the USA, the topic “Violence in Audio-visual Media and their Effects on Children and Society” was discussed. Numerous media experts, Ambassadors to the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and representatives of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), participated in this session. (end)
