The Chair of the Caucus of the People and Justice in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PABiH) Nihad Omerović spoke today with the head of the political department of the Office of the Special Representative of the European Union (EU) in BiH (EUSR) Elisabet Tomasinec.

At the meeting, which was held in the premises of the Caucus of Representatives of the People and Justice, it was discussed on the priorities in fulfilling the 14 basic conditions for full membership in the EU, as well as on the definition of best models and the creation of an environment for fulfilling the key conditions to align the Constitution and institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina with EU legislation and acquis, i.e. to enable the active implementation of the "acquis".

There was also talk about the social and economic policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the activities that are being conducted to improve the socio-economic situation, as well as the adoption of legal regulations that define this area.

The meeting was also an opportunity for Mr. Omerović to get acquainted with the ways and priorities of the EUSR's work. In this regard, they discussed the issues and problems which are in the focus of the EUSR, as well as ways to solve these issues in the shortest possible time and in the best possible way for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mrs. Tomasinec expressly emphasized that it is necessary to focus on the 14 key priorities for EU membership, as well as on the analytical report, in which, as she said, it is necessary to pay special attention to the 4th and 5th priority points, with special emphasis on application of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in the election process.

According to Mrs. Tomašinec, in the coming period, the Council of the EU plans to establish a political forum to be attended by all high-ranking officials of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which should be held twice a year. The first such meeting should be held already after the formation of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the meeting, it was announced that the EU is preparing to allocate 70 million euros in grants to support addressing the social and economic issues in our country. Mr. Omerović welcomed this decision of the EU and expressed the hope that these funds will be distributed to the most necessary places in Bosnia and Herzegovina. (end)
