Dr. Denis Bećirović, Speaker of the BiH PA House of Representatives, met with Maria Aurora Mejia Errasquin, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dr. Bećirović assessed the bilateral relations between BiH and the Kingdom of Spain as good and without any questions remaining open. The friendship between these States is a basis for the further strengthening of co-operation and improvement of relations in all spheres, in line with mutually expressed interests. Dr. Bećirović used this opportunity to express his gratitude for all the help and support given to BiH by the government and the nation of the Kingdom of Spain. The Ambassador added that she will follow the tradition of good relations and co-operation between the Kingdom of Spain and BiH, as well as between the cities of Madrid, Barcelona, and Sarajevo.

The interlocutors agreed that economic relations between BiH and the Kingdom of Spain are insufficiently developed and that there is a lot of potential and room for the development of economic relations for the sake of the peoples of these two friendly States. As announced by the Cabinet of the Speaker of the BiH House of Representatives, Dr. Bećirović said: “The interests of BiH are to stimulate investment, especially in the spheres of electric energy, telecommunications, car industry, environmental protection, wood and metal industry, industrial waste refinement, water supply and communal infrastructure. When comparing export and import data, it is evident that the foreign trade exchange is increasing year on year. From 2008 to 2012, BiH increased its exports more than threefold while recording a lower percentage of imports. However, despite the positive figures, the data on import and export values shows that overall foreign trade exchange is still at a low level. Therefore, when aiming for intensified economic co-operation, it is necessary to work on strengthening the connections between economic merchants and investors.” (end)
