Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Gender Equality, Ismeta Dervoz, was in Zagreb at a Conference on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325
Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Gender Equality of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA), Ismeta Dervoz, participated in a Conference on the Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which is organized by the Centre for Security Cooperation of SEE countries (RACVIAC) and the Agency for Gender Equality, and was held on 22 and 23 October in Zagreb.
According to the organizers, the aim of this conference was to develop a framework for monitoring progress in the implementation of Resolution 1325 and other documents of the UN Security Council concerning the rights of women in RACVIAC countries. At the same time, the conference also discussed establishing a functioning regional co-ordination mechanism regarding implementation of Resolution 1325.
In October of 2000, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1325, which is better known under the title "Women, Peace and Security". It is a document which asks warring parties around the world to respect the rights of women and to support their participation in peace-keeping missions and post-conflict reconstruction.
In 2010, the BiH Council of Ministers adopted an action plan for the implementation of the Resolution, which has the primary objective of greater participation of women in decision – making positions in the military and police forces and peace – keeping missions, and improving the position of women with the status of civilian victims of war.
Also, at the invitation of Ana Blatnik, President of the Federal Council of the Republic of Austria, MP Ismeta Dervoz took part in the conference “Remembrance, Reconciliation, design of the future of Southeastern Europe in the new Europe”, held in Klagenfurt. The introductory speaker and moderator of the panel that engages one representative from each of the countries of BiH, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia, is the former High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch.
