A Member of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, Mladen Ivanic, participated in Monitoring Committee activities

Mladen Ivanić, a member of the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, participated today in the activities of the Committee on Honouring Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee).

During the discussion, Mladen Ivanić emphasized that, in his opinion, Bosnia and Herzegovina will spend the next two to three months in a political vacuum. According to Ivanic, because of the lack of agreement between political leaders regarding the implementation of the decision of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg in the case of Sejdić and Finci against Bosnia and Herzegovina, progress in the next four months cannot be expected.

In addition, at today’s meeting of the Committee, a reporter for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ms.Karin Woldseth, presented a report on her visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina in June this year. She emphasized that her last visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina happened in the middle of a political crisis caused by the breakdown of the ruling coalition, which is discouraging due to the fact that more than one year was needed to constitute the state level government.

Furthermore, she expressed her concern because of the lack of agreement for the implementation of the decision of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, despite the promises given by politicians that a solution would be initiated by 27th June, when a meeting of the presidents of leading political parties from Bosnia and Herzegovina with high-level delegates of European Union has been agreed in order to discuss the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the end of her presentation, Karin Woldseth expressed disapproval for the situation in Mostar, due to the fact that local elections will not be held in this city. (end)
