The Chair of the PA BiH Delegation to PACE Saša Magazinović was elected as the Vice-President of the Socialist Group in the Council of Europe

The Chair of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Saša Magazinović, was elected as the Vice-President of the Group of Socialists, Democrats and Greens (SOC) in the Council of Europe, during the first part of the regular annual session of the PACE in Strasbourg. Strasbourg.

Vice-President Magazinović will be one of the deputies of Frank Schwabe (FR Germany), the president of the largest political group in the Council of Europe. Bearing in mind the current strength of the Socialists, as well as the traditionally great influence in the Parliament, this appointment gains significance. However, this is the second time for Magazinović to be elected to this important position.

On the occasion of his election to this important position, Magazinović stated that, although this is not the first time, he has had the honour of being part of the leadership of the strongest political group in the Council of Europe, as he says, situations like this always represent a new challenge for anyone who feels passion for his work.

"We live in a politically very turbulent time. Sometimes this is more visible at the sessions of the Parliament of the Council of Europe than at our sessions in Sarajevo. Global trends are strongly felt here and relations in the world are changing. At such a moment, being the Vice President of the strongest political group here in Strasbourg is very significant for me.

I am glad that, when we talk about socialists, the support for Bosnia and Herzegovina has always been clear and concrete. We saw this recently here in Strasbourg, when many representatives from European Union countries signed their support for the European path of our country, in which the Social Democrats were leading ones.

On the other hand, I always emphasize that it is good for as many people from Bosnia and Herzegovina as possible to be represented in international institutions and, if possible, to have responsible positions. Work in international organizations is not necessarily related to the country one comes from, so neither will mine be in the position to which I was appointed, but it is unquestionable that I will devote a significant part of my engagement to our country. The Council of Europe is the European house of human rights, and I come from a country where the human rights of a huge number of people are violated by the Constitution itself. Well, I am one of those people who cannot run for the Presidency of BiH in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I spoke about the constitutional discrimination of citizens, and I will speak without reservation. "Without correcting this discrimination and respecting the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, everything else makes no sense," said Magazinović.

Saša Magazinović has been present in international politics for a long period of time. He is currently the Chair of the BiH delegation in the PACE, a member of the Presidency of the Party of European Socialists, and a member of the management of the Global Council for Peace and Tolerance. (end)
