Delegation of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs of the Irish Parliament visits the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH


The support of Ireland to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path is of great importance and bilateral meetings pose an opportunity for agreement on specific co-operation, especially on the brink of 2013 when the Ireland takes the chairmanship of the European Union. This was emphasized at today’s meeting of the members of the Joint Committee on European Integration of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the delegation of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs of the Irish Parliament. The delegation was headed by the Joint Committee’s Chairman Mr. Dominic Hannigan.

The Chairman of the Joint Committee on European Integration Mr. Halid Genjac thanked him for support so far and introduced the guests to the process of meeting the criteria and its dynamics. Mr. Genjac is also convinced that Bosnia and Herzegovina will turn in its application for membership of the EU during the tenure of the Irish chairmanship.

According to Mr. Dominic Hannigan, Chairman of the Joint Committee of the Irish Parliament, the goal of this visit to the region is to be introduced to the current situation. Ireland wishes to contribute to the European Union’s enlargement due to its forty-year long experience in the Union and knowledge of all opportunities and advantages which the member states have.

During the meeting, the participants also discussed the Irish experience of applying for European Funds, enhancements in public administration, as well as the possibility of co-operation in the field of higher education and student exchange.
The Delegation of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs of the Irish Parliament also met members of the Friendship Group for Western Europe. (The End)
