Members of the Permanent Delegation of the BiH PA at Annual Session of the OSCE PA

Members of the Permanent Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), Mirza Kušljugić and Lazar Prodanović, participated at the five-day 23rd Annual Sitting of the OSCE PA in Baku. They participated in work of the three committees and the OSCE PA plenary session, where a number of resolutions and issues related to politics, security, economy, environment, human rights, democracy and humanitarian work were discussed.

At the meeting of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security, the Resolution on Regional Co-operation in South-East Europe was adopted. The Resolution welcomes the progress achieved by the Western Balkans countries towards sustaining regional co-operation and supporting the European future of all countries in South-East Europe. Further, the Resolution criticizes the periodic recurrence of unconstructive prejudices both within and towards the region; it calls upon the EU in particular to avoid creating artificial obstacles in the path to accession.

One plenary session, attended by more than 330 MPs from 56 OSCE participating states, featured a special debate on situation in Ukraine. Russian and Ukrainian delegations agreed to establish a special inter-parliamentary group in order to de-escalate the situation on the ground and support the country out of the crisis. The inter-parliamentary group will consist of OSCE parliamentarians from other participating States, along with the Russian and Ukrainian members.

In the margins of the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE PA, Mr. Kušljugić and Mr. Prodanović met with the delegations from the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, the Croatian Parliament and the Assembly of Montenegro in the OSCE PA.

It was concluded at the meeting that co-operation in the region is vital to improving mutual relations, as certain issues must be solved as soon as possible. The adoption of the Resolution on Regional Co-operation in South-East Europe, which outlines concrete joint objectives, was highlighted as a success. It is the first resolution of its kind to emerge since those four South-East European countries became OSCE participating states. It was further noted that now is the time to create new opportunities for the South-East European countries. A sincere willingness toward co-operation among these South-East European countries would significantly improve the international perception of the region. (end)
