Speaker of the House of Peoples Dr. Dragan Čović met with the US ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina

"The Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Dragan Čović, today met with the US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael Murphy in Sarajevo.

Speaker Čović and Ambassador Murphy discussed the current situation in BiH, internal relations, the General Elections.  They also covered the reform of the Electoral Law process, which has remained an open political issue, despite the efforts of Croatian representatives to end all negotiations with an agreement.

Dr. Čović confirmed a position that is clear and fully articulated. At this moment, there are no conditions for holding elections in BiH, nor for the implementation of the electoral process, primarily with regard to the constitution of the upper parliamentary houses at the federal and state levels. Such a situation may call into question the full legality of the electoral process, which would further complicate and create instability in the entire political system at all levels. Speaker Čović thanked the American administration for its mediation, support and overall engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Regional, European and transnational relations were also discussed. Speaker Čović emphasised that Europe must be firmly committed to peace and prosperity, the foundations of which were laid by the Schuman Declaration 72 years ago and created the current contours of the European Union."
