Ognjen Tadić, Speaker of the House of Peoples met with the Head of Council of Europe Office in BiH

“Sejdić – Finci decision enforcement should be at the agenda of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH as soon as possible, and this move would be recognized as a progress by the Council of Europe. As regards the upcoming visit by the Council of Europe Monitoring Committee, as well as the report from the meeting of the Ministers’ Committee, which will take place in November, it is necessary at the first stage to establish a working body for dealing with an issue, and further discuss it in the state Parliament which will take a final position.’’ Mary Ann Hennessey-Gopal, Head of Council of Europe Office in BiH, stressed the aforementioned, during the meeting held today with the Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Ognjen Tadić. Concerning the fulfilment of the obligations by BiH towards the European Court on Human Rights in Strasbourg, Speaker Tadić told the guests that the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH has been informed about the activities undertaken so far, and it is expected to have this issue on the agenda in the forthcoming period. The interlocutors agreed that the “Sejdić – Finci” ruling represents a specific area which does not require complete constitutional changes. In the case of wider reforms, the vox populi should be heard. In that respect, the referendum on certain issues would be a way to include the public in the reform processes, stated Hennessey-Gopal and Tadić. (end)
