Dr. Denis Bećirović, Speaker of the House of Representatives received the Chargè d’Affaires of the Republic of Turkey

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the Republic of Turkey enjoy excellent political relations, but there is still the potential for stronger economic ties. The exchange of goods between the two countries, to the tune of 300 millions $, is modest when compared to trade potential, despite the major progress made over the last thirty years. This was stressed during the meeting held today between Dr. Denis Bećirović and the Chargè d’Affaires of the Republic of Turkey, Ms. Yasemin Eralp.
Dr. Bećirović expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Turkey for its consistent respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, as well as for its active diplomatic role in the Balkans, even though Turkey’s efforts occasionally faced a lack of understanding. According to Ms. Eralp, the Republic of Turkey is interested in BiH’s progress in all fields. She stressed Turkey’s wish for the formation of the BiH Council of Ministers as soon as possible, and the acceleration of our country towards NATO membership, which would bring permanent stability and the decline of tensions obstructing progress. Also discussed at today’s meeting was the need to further intensify co-operation between BiH and Turkey, through contact between the leadership and the working bodies of the parliaments of the two friendly countries.
