Members of the Joint Committee on Defence and Security of BiH talked today in Sarajevo with EUFOR Commander in BiH

Members of the Joint Committee on Defence and Security of BiH met today in Sarajevo with EUFOR Commander in BiH, Major General Anton Waldner.

At the meeting, attended by the Chair of the Joint Committee, Sifet Podžić, Deputy Chairs Borislav Bojić and Borjana Krišto, members of the Joint Committee, Hazim Rančić, Šemsudin Mehmedović, Bariša Čolak, Hanka Vajzović and Mario Karamatić, as well as the Parliamentary Military Commissioner, Boško Šiljegović, the interlocutors exchanged the information on the activities of the Joint Committee in 2017 and the agenda for the current 2018.

Members of the Joint Committee emphasised that the defence sector will focus on monitoring of expenditure of budget funds and the public procurement process in terms of activities related to the destruction of surplus weapons, ammunition and mines and explosive devices, the state of personnel and human rights in the Armed Forces of BiH, the equipping of the Armed Forces of BiH, resolving of the issue of the registration of military assets, and the process of implementation of the Defence Review document.

In the security sector, the focus of this year’s work of the Joint Committee will be on further implementation of activities aimed at improvement of cooperation and coordination of the work of police agencies under the Ministry of Security of BiH, as well as monitoring of activities of the Protection and Rescue Sector of the Ministry of Security of BiH, which, as noted, should comply with the law and the commitment to help our citizens in crisis situations and with facing eventual natural disasters.

General Waldner briefed the members of the Joint Committee on Defence and Security of BiH about the mission and focus of the work of the EUFOR Command in BiH in 2018 and 2019.

During the meeting, opinions were exchanged on a number of other issues from the defence and security sector. (End)
